Caucasus, c. 129 x 124 cm, about 1900. A very archaic prayer Kazak with light-coloured ground. This remarkable carpet is a particularly good example of a successful combination of folk motifs and elements of urban manufactories. Patterns such as the present were not produced very often. One reason for this was the important role that separately working individual weavers played in the process. In good condition for its age. (VP)
