From the end of the 18th century onwards, carpets in Western style were knotted in the Karabakh region, often in order to meet the demand of Russian occupying officers and the Francophile Russian higher nobility, who wished to furnish their salons in keeping with French taste. Evenly thin pile with corroded areas of colour. The edges have been re-worked. A few old repairs. (VP)
