- VD 16, F 3242; Nissen, BBI 658; PMM 69. - Erste Ausgabe des berühmtesten und schönsten Kräuterbuches der Renaissance. - "Ein klasses Pflanzenbuch... wohl das berühmteste und schönste Pflanzenbuch... das je erschienen ist" (PMM). - "Die von den Stuttgarter Malern Albert Meyer und Heinrich Füllmauer gezeichneten und von Veit Rudolph Speckle in Straßburg in Holz geschnittenen Illustrationen... sind trotz einiger zeitbedinger Unrichtigkeiten von ungewöhnlicher botanischer Genauigkeit, und ihre künstlerische Vollkommenheit wurde Maßstab für die spätere botanische Buchillustration" (Fünf Jahrhunderte Buchillustration 87). - Sämtliche Holzschnitte in schönem Kolorit der Zeit. - Die ersten beiden Blätter mit fachmännisch restaurierten Randläsuren. - Tlw. etwas fleckig.

With 2 handcoloured woodcut printer’s marks, a full-page handcoloured woodcut portrait of the author, 3 handcoloured woodcut portraits of the illustrators and 512 leaf-sized, handcoloured plant woodcuts by V. R. Speckle after H. Füllmauer and A. Meyer. 14 leaves, 896 pp., 2 leaves. Contemporary wooden binding with blind-stamped leather cover, old label on the spine in handwriting and 2 clasps (slightly stained and rubbed; very slight worm damage).
