Bernardo Facini (Venice 1665- Piacenza 1731), A Mirror Machine, Venice 1715,
signed and dated 'Bern. s Facini / fac. t Venetijs 1715' Consisting of a double mainspring barrel gear train that drives a central vertical pin via a gear train and a worm gear. The machine includes a mirrored, geometrical object consisting of three five-sided pyramids on top, and a wooden frame reinforced with brass, which is intended for the insertion of three rectangular plates. The base of both the drive mechanism and the mirror object is an equilateral triangle with flattened tips. The machine is stored in two wooden fitted cases covered with brown leather and lined with red fabric. The lid of the larger of the two cases, which is intended for the two attachments, can be fixed at different opening angles and has a mirror inside. The lid of the smaller case can be completely removed and the mechanism in the lower part of the case is placed in the opened larger case. Thus, both cases are part of the machine assembly. Size: mechanism 17 x 20x 7 cm, mirror object: 23.5 x 7 cm, cases: 27 x 31 x 10 cm and 19.5 x 19.5 c 14 cm.
