very rare and exceptional lady’s wristwatch with diamond glass, old-cut diamonds tears, baguette-cut diamonds, platinum 950, safety clasp and chain, shaped lever movement number 37775, calibre 101, 17 stones, the back and mechanism signed European Watch & Clock Co, casing marked Edmond Jaeger, French gov. hallmark, partly illegible case no. and signature, baton numerals, length c. 18.5 cm, workmanship c. 1930/40, 38.2 g, oxidation marks, movement in need of repair, dial re-worked, stones with surface marks The European Watch & Clock Co was a cooperation between Cartier and Edmond Jaeger of the Jaeger Lecoultre Manufacture, which began in the early 1920s with the goal to build high quality watches. The calibre 101 used by Jaeger Lecoultre, measuring 14 x 4.8 x 3.4 mm and weighing just under one gram, was the world’s smallest mechanical movement at that time. Since its presentation in 1929, this movement has been used in small series for exceptional jewellery watches. For example, Queen Elizabeth II wore a wristwatch with calibre 101 at her coronation ceremony in 1953.
