“Dada Hilft”, Udo Breitenbach

2020, object trouvé by object artist Udo Breitenbach. Diverse materials. Height c. 100 cm, width c. 46 cm, depth c. 46 cm. (MHA)

The Aschaffenburg-based object artist Udo Breitenbach works with unusual found objects and uses them in a new context. ‘Speaking objects’ from which he reads history and stories, and which he interprets. The results are Dadaesque collages, assemblages or ready-mades. Dadaists opposed the madness of the First World War with ‘the absurd’ - ANTI ART as a creative act of despair. The present object deals with the pandemic and its effects in a post-Dadaist manner. The object was part of the art exhibition ‘1. Weimarer ab_DADA-Messe’ of the object artist Udo Breitenbach on the occasion of the anniversary of the ‘1. Internationale DADA-Messe’, which took place in Berlin almost exactly 100 years ago and caused a scandal. Udo Breitenbach sees himself as a post-Dadaist who draws on the language of Dadaism, but deals with the issues of our time. In view of the fractures and abysses of now TIME, Breitenbach comments on topics such as corona, populism, Europe or global politics. The works often have ironic or sarcastic titles.

Exhibited: ‘CoRoNa DADA’ 27.06.-16.08.2020 at Galerie am Markt 21 in Weimar

“You don’t even know how real DADA tastes, because you are using a DADA filter “Art”. He is the only one who always makes a senseless roar delivers, with easy handling and easy is to be cleaned thoroughly, which DADA uses completely and DADA saves 30-40 percent. “ (Udo Breitenbach)

This is how the post-Dadaist Udo Breitenbach interprets historical Dadaism in one of the exhibits.
