Richard Avedon

(New York City 1923-2004 San Antonio, Texas)
"The Beatles", 1967, 4 offset prints on smooth paper, poster edition in unknown print-run, each with typeset inscription and copyright mark © by NEMS Enterprises Ltd., published by Cowles Education Corporation/New York, image size 75.5 x 57 cm, sheet size 78.8 x 57 cm, barely noticeable handling creases, one sheet with short tear, framed, (4), (EW)

In August 1967, Richard Avedon created portraits of the four Beatles to visualise the psychedelic sound of the recently released album "Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band". Their Day-Glo portraits are full of symbolism. John Lennon looks through swirling glasses, Paul McCartney holds flowers, George Harrison is painted with henna and Ringo Starr is carrying a dove. The works became iconic images in art and music history.
