A personal treasure of Emperor Maximilian I of Mexico in exceptionally luxurious execution. The Imperial Mexican Order of the Eagle was founded by Maximilian on 1 January 1865 and was the highest order of the Mexican Empire. The present item from the property of the emperor is in this form and design a unique specimen. After the death of Emperor Max of Mexico, this personal object was given to his parents, Archduke Francis Charles and Archduchess Sophie. They in turn gave it to Crown Prince Rudolf of Austria, as a memento of his uncle.
