the Baltics/Russia, first quarter of the 19th century and later, mahogany veneered softwood frame on conical square legs, cube-shaped body with central half-arched recess, 1 drawer and 2 large side drawers with brass fillet decoration in panels, fluted brass lesenes, top with full round columns with brass fillets, extensible writing surface with brass edges and green writing insert, roller blind closure, the interior fitted with drawers at a later date, surmounted by 3 external drawers, brass rail, c. 118 x 110 x 63 cm, partly cracked, traces of age and usage, on the back stamped twice B. v. B. 77 and 83 (DOC)

Provenance:
formerly Victor of Baggovout, Russian diplomat (late 19th century), whose ancestor Karl Gustav of Baggovout (1761-1812) distinguished himself as a Russian general in the Napoleonic Wars (Russian campaign in 1812) and the large family estates in Estonia were lost after the October Revolution of 1917.
