inscribed on the reverse: Marten/van Loon/ Door/Geldorp,
oil on canvas, 65 x 58 cm, framed
Despite the inscription on the verso, the present picture depicts Hans van Loon (1613-33), another version being conserved in the Van Loon Museum Amsterdam, (inv. no. 161). Hans is portrayed in the uniform of a militia Lieutenant, and according to the archives of the RKD, served under Captain Hoogendorp.
