Digital embroidery in a stainless steel frame, 59 x 40 x 5 cm
Mathis Esterhazy has been producing textile surfaces for his “bausprache” furniture on an embroidery machine since 2010. An African wax print motif from Côte d’Ivoire was translated into area-wide embroidery for a series of shop trolleys. The monochrome pictures get a three-dimensional effect through different stitch directions, which changes depending on the viewing angle. From this series Esterhazy developed also a few individual pictures that are framed with steel strip. The stainless-steel frame with the monochrome silver embroidery creates a compact image with a sculptural character.
