Southwest Caucasus, c. 212 x 156 cm, 19th century. A massive representative of the shield type, with a Maltese-like design occupying the entire ground of the carpet. This archaic collector’s carpet from the area around Lake Sevan is completely original and largely preserved with deep pile. With repairs to both lower corners and two creases. Brown partly corroded.
