porcelain, cobalt blue body, opening rim with gilt edges in relief, neck and foot with white and gold painted leaf friezes, baluster fronts each with an antique theme; first vase with three mourning Romans and a general with helmet and sword, the latter pointing to a fainting lady who was caught by her companion, in between stands a boy carrying his little brother, on the side a throne, behind it a monument of a female warrior; second vase featuring a seated ruler gesticulating in conversation with two Romans, the mid-section with a figure with knife in his right hand, threatening the Romans and holding his protective hand over the dead ruler, in the background a monument to Justice, the reverse side of both vases white a painted Asian mascaron with crown of leaves and leaf rocailles, white glazed foliate handles with rolled-up ends terminating in six leaves, with white string of beads and gold-heightened leaf terminals, height 36.5 cm
Meissen, underglaze blue crossed swords mark, second half of the 19th century, model no. H 148, former no. 61, model by Ernst August Leuteritz 1865–1870 (Ru)
