Hiroshige (1797-1858)
Sakanoshita, Fudesute mine (Sakanoshita, Mount Fudesute), sheet no. 49 from the series: “Tokaido gojusan tsugi no uchi”, also known as Great Tokaido), nishiki-e, signed: Hiroshige ga, publisher Takenouchi Magohachi (Hoeido), censor seal kiwame not visible because the left margin is trimmed, dated c. 1833-34 (Tenpo 4-5). The present sheet is a slightly later impression and is comparable to sheet no. KI 10165-48 from the MAK, Vienna. Both specimens show a triple blank area in the upper border line in the first third, and a colourless segment in the left margin and in the lower corner. The two sheets also share a missing blue overprint on the left mountain massif. Centrefold visible (slightly brown), slightly stained, left and right sides trimmed, at lower left below the signature seal one small and one tiny hole, also further above next to the signsture and to the left of the centrefold, lower margin outside the image area slightly damaged, thin sheet, 24.3 x 35 cm,(CT)
