A wine glass (drinking glass, Römer, stem glass), designed by Carl or Paul Thomas (?), Vienna, 1911/14, Bohemian manufactory, commissioned by J. & L. Lobmeyr, Vienna
transparent glass, etched, bronzite decor with diverse animals and plants; height 18.8 cm, diameter 7 cm. (MP)

Cf: "The shape of the glasses with a straight cup, called ‘Römer’ by the company, matches that of the wine glass created with a design by Jungnickel in around 1911 (so-called Affenpokal, ‘monkey goblet’). Black decoration was applied with a feather and branded onto these matte etched glasses as a technical variation of the bronzite glasses. These three stem glasses were exhibited both at the Werkbundausstellung in 1914 and at the Austrian Applied Art and Fashion Exhibition in Stockholm in 1916. In contemporary illustrations, the three glasses were attributed to different artists, including Jungnickel, Carl and Paul Thomas. The MAK owns two examples of each of the three glasses, on which the individual painting of the respective decorations can be seen."
