A unique installation ‘Raum 50 000’, designed and manufactured by Gabriel Wiese - Design

in 2019, construction reduced to basic geometric forms in the form of a steel frame pavilion, on which c. 1,200 champagne cork strands with c. 40 corks each are mounted, dimensions height c. 220 cm, width c. 220 cm, depth c. 220 cm. (MHA)

The room installation 'Raum 50000' was created in 2019 for the exhibition 'Zeitgleich-Zeitzeichen. Wandel zeitgemäß'. 1,200 strands of champagne corks hang from a lightweight steel structure. What at first glance looks like an impenetrable cube of corks turns out to be a flexible space that invites people to lose themselves in it. Or, rather, find themselves? One step inside and the visitor finds and loses himself in a unique atmosphere of light and sound. Every movement, every step causes an alternation of soft light shimmering in from above between the individual strands and a murmur of corks that swells as visitors turn, twist and walk and subsides when they stop and stand. And when we touch the corks, they answer again. We are all alone, perhaps we feel like calling out to others. We might enjoy the feeling of just becoming one with ourselves and the new world around us. Perhaps new thoughts will arise; perhaps doubt will scare thoughts away. Perhaps we might want to meet someone in this room. Perhaps we are that someone.
