‘I must always reach the painting directly, maybe by jumping or by using a small stool. Until now, even the largest painting I have done has always been within my reach, proportionate to my height and my arm span, to my physical ability. I have considered using a ladder for larger sizes many times, the idea fascinates me and who knows, maybe one day...but then when I work I move, I shake, I jump, I attack the canvas and the space around me. And what would I do with a ladder? I too am curious to know...and above all to see!

Small paintings (70x100 let's say) make me weak, no, fragile, or aggressive. I need to be in close combat with the painting, with the work, and given my stature and arm span I am comfortable with a larger canvas, let's say at least 2 by 3 metres. The drawings, on the other hand, are my spiritual exercises, my daily therapy. They are not, however, the blueprint for the painting, no, never that, rather the notes, surveys, if anything...’
