Late 19th century. A subgroup of the Sevan Kazak carpets, so called because of their imposing Maltese-like shield motif, which usually takes up the entire ground, as in the present example. The bright central field features an eight-pointed star with stylised animal heads. This archaic collector’s carpet from the area of Lake Sevan is completely preserved, with evenly trimmed pile and professional repairs.
