Tullio Crali *
(Igalo, Montenegro 1910–2000 Milan)
Aerei su grattacieli, 1929, signed and dated, oil on canvas, 23.6 x 18 cm, framed
This work is registered in the Archivio Unico per la Catalogazione delle Opere Futuriste, Rovereto and is accompanied by a photo certificate of authenticity signed by Maurizio Scudiero
Provenance:
European Private Collection
At the dawn of 1929, Crali had already been dedicated to the theme of the airplane for some time, but in that year, especially at a design level, his drawings multiplied. Often, they feature frontal views, playing with the overlapping of propellers and fuselages. In some cases, however, Crali superimposes airplanes onto the silhouettes of skyscrapers. A drawing from 1929, titled “Aerei su grattacieli” (published in Crali Aeropittore, exhibition catalogue curated by C. Rebeschini, Mart, 1994, p. 13), can be considered a preparatory sketch for the present painting. The painting itself, however, is more complex in its interpenetration of airplanes and skyscrapers - Maurizio Scudiero
