silver, inner gilding, of round form, elaborate floral ornamental decoration in relief, socket cover with sculptural Nike, several engraved dedications, height 43.5 cm, weight 1379 g, master’s mark CW = Carl Waschmann, Viennese greyhound hallmark 1872 – 1922
The dedicatory engravings read: “To the faithful professional companion Ferstel’s Carl Köchlin / to the proven collaborator on the university building, from his grateful fellow workers.” The underside bears the inscription: “Designed by Niedzielski / Modelled by Pokorny / Chased in silver by Waschmann.” A magnificent presentation cup dedicated to Heinrich Ferstel’s associate, the architect Carl Köchlin (1828–1894).
