Peter Kogler was born in Innsbruck, Austria, in 1959
Lives and works in Vienna, Austria.
1974 to 1978 he attended the Höhere Technische Bundeslehr- und Versuchsanstalt (now HTL Bau + Kunst) in Innsbruck. He then studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna from 1978 to 1979. From 1986 to 1987, Kogler taught at the Staatliche Hochschule für Bildende Künste - Städelschule, Frankfurt am Main, Germany, among other places. Since 1993 he has taught at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, where he has headed the New Media class since 1997. Since 2008, he has held a professorship in graphic arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. In 1988 he received the Otto Mauer Prize and was awarded the Prix Ars Electronica. In 1996 he received the City of Vienna Prize for Fine Arts and in 2013 the Tyrolean State Prize for Art.
