Artus Claessens

(Antwerp c. 1600 - after 1644)
An opulent kitchen still life with a lobster, oysters, fruit, cheese and a parrot,
oil on canvas, 110.3 x 140.2 cm, framed

The present painting is a characteristic work by this rare artist, who was admitted to the Guild of Saint Luke in Antwerp in 1625. His works frequently used to be mistaken for those of Clara Peeters, such as a comparable still life in the Szépmüvészeti Museum in Budapest.
