Walter Obholzer - Buy or sell works

Ebbs, 1953 – Vienna, 2008

Walter Obholzer was born on 1 October 1953 in Hall, Tyrol, and studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna from 1973 to 1978. His first solo exhibition was held in 1982 at the Thoman Gallery in Innsbruck. He represented Austria alongside Lois Weinberger at the 1991 Sao Paolo Biennale, where he exhibited his "Vertical Panoramas" on slim aluminium panels. He was awarded the City of Vienna Prize for Fine Arts in 1994. He designed a 540 square metre large image for the façade of the Kunsthalle am Karlsplatz in Vienna for a project curated by Hans-Ulrich Obrist. Walter Obholzer was professor of abstract painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna from 2000 to 2005. His last major exhibition was at the Vienna Secession in 2000/2001.

Ornamentation plays an important role in Obholzer's art. Geometric forms and endless patterns, bright and impasto colours are found in his very own form of abstraction. His works are offered for sale in Dorotheum's Contemporary Art auctions.
