Mixed lot (2 pieces), Nepal: two typical old Nepalese swords, known as ‘kora’.
Two very old Nepalese ‘kora’ swords. The blades and hilts are completely forged in iron. With a typical single-edged blade that broadens towards the tip. 1: The narrower kora blade finishes at the wider tip end in a single inward curve. The blade and hilt are forged together to form one piece, and the hilt terminates in a triple finial. The blade has traces of a red ritual sacred colouring, which implies that this sword was used over a protracted period of time for sacred animal sacrifice ceremonies. Length: c. 70 cm.
2: The second kora has a wide, single-edged blade, which ends at the tip in two flat inward-facing curves. This kora consists of two parts: The iron hilt has a wooden centre in which the blade is inserted. The hilt terminates in a single larger finial. Length: 74 cm.
Both old Nepalese swords have small areas of age-related damage. 19th century or earlier. (ME)
