Lot No. 191

“PK-80” daybed, designed by Poul Kjaerholm,

1957, manufactured by Fritz Hansen, Denmark ca. 1982/83, matte chrome-plated steel, brown leather-upholstered mattress, linen backrest, grey-green lacquered plywood panel, rubber rings with cast edges, height ca. 31,5 cm, ca. 190 x ca. 80 cm. (DRAX)

Very good original condition throughout.

The frame of the bed is an early Fritz Hansen production, whereas the mattress has all the characteristics of a work by Ivan Schlechter, who worked for the preceding E. Kold Christensen production. In particular, the narrow, finely crafted piping and the seam that runs along the middle of the second quilted row on the long side and not in the continuation of the quilt stitching, as in the later mattresses, are indications thereof. By taking over the E. Kold Christensen, Hansen probably acquired the stock of their warehouse, which included the mattress. This daybed probably comes from one of the first of the production phases of Fritz Hansen, which was provided with another mattress from the E. Kold Christensen period.
