Anders Andersen-Lundby was a self-taught painter from Denmark. He lived in Copenhagen before moving to Munich in the 1870s. He was a landscape painter specialising in winter scenes. He was particularly fond of the Bavarian countryside, which he often depicted in the evening light. Recognisable here is Possenhofen Castle, which was the Empress Sissi’s childhood home, with the Bavarian flag atop it.
