The present work was executed in 1960 for the Concorso Internazionale Menu per La Colomba in Venice. This prize was created by Arturo Deana, owner of La Colomba restaurant, also a collector and patron of the arts. The president of the competition was Carlo Cardazzo (Galleria Del Cavallino, Venice), who was assisted by a jury composed by Michel Tapié, Marco Valsecchi, Milena Milani, Gualtieri di San Lazzaro and Umbro Apollonio. Many other artists participated in the competition, including Lucio Fontana, Georges Mathieu, Giuseppe Capogrossi, Emilio Vedova, Pierre Alechinsky, Serge Poliakoff and Giorgio de Chirico.
