Presumably formerly part of the collection of Palazzo Loredan-Vendramin-Calergi in Venice, commissioned by Princess Maria-Carolina of Bourbon-Sicily, Duchess of Berry (1798-1870), produced circa 1840/50. A pronounced bombé form in hardwood and softwood, carved with rocaille, painted green, also with gold, and with scenes of the 9 muses and other allegories in reds, with five drawers, the upper section with concave niche-like shaping containing shepherding scenes as well as two gold-painted putti holding a globe. Ca. 140 x 200 x 75 cm. Professionally restored condition. (DOC)
