At the Verbelen Gallery in Brussels, the painting still formed part of a pair (La Baigneuse and Nymphe Surprise). By 1941 the two paintings had already been separated; the pendant was sold at auction at the Vienna Dorotheum twice: on 22 April 1975 as lot 80 and on 31 March 2009 as lot 198. Jan van Neck painted scenes of bathers outdoors modelled after works by Cornelis van Poelenburgh and Dirck van der Lisse.
