Mixed lot (3 items): 3 ornamental and prestige knives, Dem. Rep. of Congo.
1: Kusu, Central Congo: Ceremonial knife with wide, offset, double-edged iron blade in typical form. The hilt is cloaked with copper sheet and an iron spiral. Slight rust stains on the blade. L: 56 cm.
2: Yaka, Southwest Congo: Knife with long, double-edged iron blade. The length of the blade is centrally decorated with engraved dots and abstract lines motifs on both sides. The wooden hilt is dyed black. It is split and mended with an old original repair (animal sinew?). L: 51.5 cm.
3: Shi, eastern Congo, Rwanda: Sword/knife of the Shi, with long, narrow, double-edged blade and typical wooden hilt. L: 52 cm. All 3 knives: Between c. 1900 and the first third of the 20th century. (ME)
