A stool, Carlo Bugatti, - Design

for the Eden Palace Hotel in Genoa, Italy, c. 1897, partially ebonised and lathe turned walnut, chased copper, inlaid in pewter and bone, the seat covered with suede, height 42 cm, 35 x 35 cm. (DRAX)

Provenance: Eden Palace Hotel, Genoa, until 1927; family ownership ever since

This stool was used in the Oriental Room at the Eden Palace Hotel in Genoa, which had completely been furnished by Bugatti. Having been expanded in 1897, the Eden Palace became the leading hotel in Genoa and over the years accommodated such celebrities as Gabriele d’Annunzio, Eleonora Duse, the Italian royal family, and the King of Siam.
The luxury hotel was closed down in 1927.
