Tapestry fragment, - Oriental Carpets, Textiles and Tapestries

Brussels (Netherlands), c. 250 x 175 cm, mid-17th century, early section of an originally larger tapestry, masterfully and lively executed, the unidentified subject of a mediaeval scene depicts a royal couple sitting under a canopy, surrounded by their entourage, the colours of the main areas have mostly faded, whilst the blue and red parts of the robes and armours are still well preserved, the carpet is trimmed all around, with some sections attached and several repairs, otherwise no major damage such as exposed warp threads, trimmed with modern border, entirely mounted on linen fabric on the back.
