Cornelis Bega was a student of Adriaen van Ostade. The woman to the right of the present painting can be compared to a figure from Adriaen Brouwer’s Tavern with drunken peasants (Mauritshuis, Den Haag, Inv. No. 847) In an expert report of 1961, Dr. Walter Bernt confirms this to be a painting by Cornelis Bega. He dates it to Bega’s late period and compares it to Bega’s Musicians at the Frans Hals-Museum, Haarlem.
