Provenance:
Acquired in 1935 at S. Kende; Austrian private property. Johan Laurentz Jensen was a pupil of Christoffer Wilhelm Eckersberg (1783–1853) and Cladius Detlev Fritzsch (1765–1841) at the Danish Academy. Jensen continued his training in Paris with the Flemish flower painters and brothers, Gérard and Cornelis van Spaendonck, and at the porcelain manufactory in Sèvres. His flower arrangements often held a decorative and symbolic value. His plants were often accompanied by exotic flowers and fruits, and sometimes even birds.
