Jan van Huchtenburgh was in the service of Prince Eugene of Savoy, painting numerous depictions of victorious battles for him. He made drawings of the Prince’s major victories that served as models for engravings. The present painting is confirmed to be an autograph work by Huchtenburgh in a certificate by Prof. J. Müller-Hofstede from 1979.
