We are grateful to Dr Klaus Ertz for confirming the authenticity of the present painting. A certificate (January 2014) is available. Dr Ertz dates the present painting to the 1630s.
Frans de Momper was the nephew of landscape painter Joos de Momper. In 1629 he became master of the Guild of Saint Luke in Antwerp. He painted landscapes in the manner of his uncle. Later his colour palette was influenced by the red-brown colour shades of Jan van Goyen.
