Automat "Tea-drinking Mandarin in a Chinese vase" - Works of Art (Furniture, Sculpture)

by Jean Roullet (from 1889 Roullet & Decamps), Paris ca. 1880/1890. Painted papier maché vase, figure with papier maché head and glass eyes, dressed in brocade and silk, hands and teacup of painted metal. The musical mechanism lifts the lid, whereupon a Chinaman appears, swivels his head and lifts a teacup. (Damage, mechanis is intact). height closed ca. 35 cm. (WU).
