Jan Tilens was based in his native Antwerp for his entire career. Although nothing is known of his training, he became a member of the Guild of St. Luke in 1612/13. He collaborated with artists such as Frans Francken II (see “Landscape with Europe and Zeus”, Staatsgalerie Aschaffenburg) and also Hendrick van Balen and Hans Jordaens III.
