Angelo Maria Rossi was active in Lombardy during the second half of the 17th Century. He was known as Pseudo Fardella (see L. Salerno, La natura morta italiana, Rome 1984, pp. 280/81) and was initially identified in 1996 as the “Pittore di Carlo Torre” (see G. Cirillo and G. Godi, Le Nature Morte del “Pittore di Carlo Torre” Pseduo Fardella, Parma 1996). This name is based on a dedication that was discovered on one of his paintings. In one painting that was attributed to the “Pittore di Carlo Torre”, Giuseppe Cirillo finally found the monogram A.M.R. and identified it as belonging to the painter Angelo Maria Rossi, who is listed in numerous inventories of collections in Milan. Angelo Maria Rossi was a still life painter, and the present composition bears witness to his repertoire.
