Large globe table in Empire revival style, - Works of Art

A high quality piece from the 20th century, modelled after the tables from the beginning of the 19th century. A mahogany-veneered and polished spherical table, set on a naturalistic figure of Atlas kneeling, which is ebonised and painted gold, set on a three-sided base with concave shaping, with a maple-veneered ring with Greek letters, signs of the sun and a hinged lid. The table has a fitted interior veneered in maple and burlwood, with portico, India ink painting, mirror lined niche, 3 interior drawers, 2 of which pull to the side, a removable top with latticework, below which is a removable section with compartments for sewing implements and an integrated secret compartment; below these are hidden a series of secret drawers and moving compartments. Height ca. 152 cm, diameter ca. 71 cm. In restored condition. (DOC)
