Pair of large Italian Renaissance candelabras or torcheres, - Works of Art

Tuscany, 16th century and later. Rocaille-shaped wooden baluster shafts on three-sided bases, with stylised lion paw feet, painted a reddish colour and gold, with acanthus leaves, gadrooned drip pans, each demountable in five parts. Height ca. 185 cm. Overpainted, some losses to the paintwork, and with some wear. (DOC)

At Castel St Angelo in Rome there is a pair of candelabras with very similar plinths.
