1986 Austin Mini 1000 *

1986 Austin Mini 1000 * - Classic Cars

Italian export with only three owners!

The Mini was presented on 18 August 1959. Sir Alec Issigonis designed a revolutionary automobile with transverse engine mounted at the front, hydro-elastic - aka “rubber suspension” - and 10” wheels, measuring just 3,054 mm in length. But it still had space for four adults and their luggage, an inconceivable combination at the time. Very soon, this unusual design became extremely popular, catching the eye with surprising accomplishments like winning the Monte Carlo Rally on four occasions. The trendsetter remained in production until 2000, whereby it was continuously improved and modernised while still remaining true to its roots at heart.

This Mini 1000 from the 1980s is a purebred original, without latter-day frills and fancies, DIY additions or tuning. It is preserved in its series colour of silver metallic, boasting standard seats without headrests and a slender steering wheel and central speedometer. The original rims are still fitted. It rolled out of the original dealer’s door with precisely these unprepossessing and demure features. It was and remains a heartthrob that captivates men just as much, a super-practical vehicle and still hip. Entirely untypical for a Mini is its excellent conservation, despite the crippling quality problems the company experienced at the time: doubtless the climate in its Italian home contributed to its preservation. It only had three owners before arriving on Italian shores as a new addition to the consignor’s collection.

VIN: SAXXL2S1021253759, mileage: 31,758 km (read), displacement: 998 cc/R4, power: 44 hp, colour: silver metallic/grey (fabric), gearbox: 4-speed, papers: Italian vehicle papers
