We are grateful to Alastair Laing who has confirmed the present painting to be by Soldini. He considers it to be an important addition to the artist´s oeuvre and compares it to another composition by Soldini that was sold at Sotheby’s, Paris, on 23 June 2011, lot 76.
Luigi Domenico Soldini was the son of the secretary to Cardinal Rohan who originally came from Florence. He was registered at the Paris Academy of Saint Luke as a master, professor, and retired professor in 1754, 1766, and 1775 respectively.
