The painter Ludwig Blume-Siebert was first trained at the art school in Nuremberg at the recommendation of the artist Wilhelm von Kaulbach. Studies in Düsseldorf and Munich followed, where he studied under Defregger who exerted a great influence on him. His subjects suited contemporary tastes and he rejoiced in great popularity. During the 1890s Blume-Siebert was often to be found in the painters’ colony at Willingshäusen which attracted numerous artists of this period.
