Heinrich Lauenstein: Lauenstein was a pupil at the Düsseldorf Academy from 1860. From 1864 he taught the elementary class at the Academy and from 1897 the class for religious historical painting. In his paintings of figures, which reflected the Nazarene style, Lauenstein sought to unite the Ideal style of his teacher Bendemann with his own naturalistic approach (Compare: Thieme Becker, Künstlerlexikon, Leipzig 1928, Vol.22, p.434).
