Shahsavan Mafrash,
Northwest Persia (Iran), length: c. 110 cm, width: c. 58 cm, height: c. 46 cm, about 1870, a “travelling bag” of the Shahsavan nomads, used as a fabric container during their journeys, woven in soumak technique with pattern borders, bags such as the present one were used for storage and were kept inside the yurt at the encampment; very beautiful age patina with a pattern of lozenges and symbols of growth as well as four-legged animal abstractions, a very similar long side has been published by Hegenbart, this piece is wholly preserved, with blue and brown striped bag bottom, used, with minor seam damage, mounted on a wood and cardboard structure.
