The present design cannot be ascribed to a certain coat of arms but shows various emblematic elements. The lily and its filaments point to the arms of Florence with the bishop’s mitre above it; the female figures may be allegories of justice and power. On the basis of stylistic features then drawing can be attributed to an artist from the circle of Friedrich Sustris (1540-1599) of around 1600, who may also have been active in Italy.
