clear glass, of curved form, the body with gilt edging and gilt border on silver-yellow tinted band, a delicate spider’s web, at the centre of which sits a spider waiting for a fly, cut repeated vertical facets on the side of the foot (“ranft”), 16-point yellow star, height 10.8 cm, Bohemia, early 20th century. (Ru)

The symbolism of this image refers to the carefree life of the bachelor, represented by the fly, on which the spider is about to jump. This painterly motif was a favourite of Gottlob Samuel Mohn and Anton Kothgasser.
