The author is a member of the well-known glassmaking family, the Beráneks, who have been running the glassworks in Škrdlovice since the 1940s. After studying at the Secondary Art and Design School in Brno, Vlastimil Beránek graduated from prof. Libenský’s studio at the AAAD in Prague. He works primarily with the technique of fused sculpture. He designs monumental sculptures of elementary shapes, which gain another dimension through the transparency of the glass.
The work on offer, Spiral, is one of his first spirals. He made it in 2001. He fused the sculpture in his glassworks in Škrdlovice. While he was fusing it, he experimented with creating interesting shades of red.
