Vienna (Austria), c. 65 x 173 cm, manufactured in 1935, transversally woven wool and silk tapestry by the Royal and Imperial Gobelin Manufactory in the Hofburg (1921 - 1987), established by August Mader and painter Robin Christian Andersen after World War I, originally following the style of the British “Arts and Crafts Movement”; the scene depicts a partially naked group of figures in keeping with the tenets of the “new art”; very good condition with signature “WM” at lower right and signature of an unidentified designer “ER” at lower left, supported with linen band on the back and only partly legible inscription indicating the designer, date and manufactory; prime colour condition and overall state of preservation; tapestries from the Viennese Gobelin Manufactory are preserved at the State Opera in Vienna, the Festspielhaus in Salzburg, the Museum of Applied Arts in Vienna and several ministries.
